Amparo Acker-Palmer studied biology at the University of Valencia in Spain and received her PhD in 1996. She received the Paul Ehrlich-und Ludwig Darmstädter-Prize for Young Researchers in 2010. She is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, of the Academia Europaea, EMBO member, Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research and ERC Advanced Awardee. Her main research interests include understanding the role of the vasculature in the development of the nervous system, the so called “Neurovascular link”, and molecular mechanisms controlling the development and the maintenance of the Blood-Brain-Barrier
