ED research has been, dedicated to the study of the architecture of endothelial cell-to-cell junctions. These structures play a crucial role in maintenance of vascular integrity, in the control of vascular permeability to circulating cells and solutes and tumor angiogenesis. A more recent extension of this work included the study of inherited cerebral cavernous malformations to identify the molecular basis of this disease and possible therapeutic interventions.
