My research is focused on the mechanism of action of growth factors, VEGF, PDGF, FGF, on endothelial cells. My aim is to create and implement in vivo models to study VEGF receptor-dependent pathways and their impact on homeostasis and disease. We have delineated the signaling pathway downstream of VEGFR2 regulating the vascular barrier. Studying several components in this pathway, we have learnt about the consequence of an enhanced or deteriorated barrier on embryonic and postnatal development as well as in disease such as cancer and retinopathies.
