The overall goal of my laboratory is to develop regenerative therapy for ischemic cardiovascular diseases using stem or progenitor cells and tissue engineering. Over the past 20 years, our research has focused on developing cell-based therapy for cardiovascular disease. We have investigated the generation of stem cells, their differentiation into the cardiac and vascular lineages, generation of reprogrammed endothelial cells, and their therapeutic effects and mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases. Recently, we have successfully developed systems to differentiate human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), including human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs), into cardiomyocytes and endothelial cells (ECs). We have also developed a novel technology to directly reprogram human cells into endothelial cells and other cardiovascular cells.
